Seriously Scatterbrained Syndrome

Now Playing: Massive Attack - Teardrop

Ah, alliteration. You never fail to amuse me. Even when I'm not entirely certain just how you should be spelt. Anywho, getting back on track - these days I find that my thoughts are just so scattered. I vaguely recall what it's like to concentrate - but trying to sit down and do something? out of the question at the moment.

The last time we spoke, I recommended Veronica Mars. Since then, I've finished watching all the episodes to date - and while my praise still stands - I'd advise you to catch the show in reruns, rather than having a VM marathon. You only watch a show like this for the first time, once - and if you rush through it in a week or so, as I did, you don't really get the opportunity to savour it. While I do deplore the Network's practice of having long periods with no new episodes during the TV season, it does build a sense of anticipation between episodes that I completely missed out on. "What's with Duncan's pills? Ah, no need to wait, I can just watch the next episode!" However, it's still a great show, with awesome writing and wonderful acting. Get thee to thy tivos now, lest my wrath befall thee!

In other TV-related news (honestly, do I do anything besides watching TV?) TWoP has dropped both ER and CSI from its list of recapped shows! Where am I going to get my Shane West snark now? They have brought House on board though, which is awesome.

Canada Day was last friday! Went to watch the fireworks at the harbourfront centre with Linda & Stephanie - Mimmie joined us earlier, but had to leave soon too. It was nice & fun - though the lakeshore was a bit chilly - and we ran into Sabina! Which was cool! :D Oh, and LaMarche is no more. The restaurant is still the same - ie, still a good place to eat - but now it's called Richtree. just so you know.

I cannot believe some of you have not read Pride and Prejudice!!! It is, in my opinion, one of the best novels ever! It's the book I'd take if I had to be stranded on an island with one book! (Although "How to get off a remote desert island without mucking about like those people on Lost" finished a close second.) In any case, there's (yet) another movie version coming up! Personally, I was not wowed by Bride and Prejudice - the songs were awful, really - Gurinder Chadha should stick to writing dialogue, not music. Aishwarya Rai looked beautiful - although, when doesn't she, really? - and so did Martin Henderson - which is to be expected, given that it is a truth universally acknowleged that Fitzwilliam Darcy has a "fine, tall person, handsome features, noble mien." (And, no, I didn't get that from memory!) In any case, the tradition appears to be nicely continued in the upcoming feature film, which I will most definitely be watching, whenever it's coming out. Feel free to join me! :D

The arghness-that-is-course-selection continues. If anyone has heard anything about MGY428, or 485, or ENG213, please leave a comment.

Finally, there appears to be a winner in the 2005 mp3 player sweepstakes! Dark horse Creative Zen sweeps past favourites Apple iPod and Dell DJ, as well as newcomer iRiver H10, to win the Sharon's-mp3-player Cup! Given that I always second guess big decisions like this one, expect the actual purchase to be made somewhere round 2010. :D

That's it for me for now. Ta!

... who the hell are you?

:P

Obviously I remember you, Ray!

Don't try and talk me out of getting an mp3 player! It took me so long to make up my mind and now you are trying to change it? :'( Though a cassette player IS very easy on the budget...

Hehe, alliteration! One thing that got me through grade 7 was the name I gave to a section of my binder: "Stephen Singh's Secret Special Social Studies Section". :D

Re TV marathons, it seems like that's the only way I can actually get to watch a show nowadays. :P Very few shows do I get to watch in their original run, or have the patience to watch in reruns. :D

Have you seen the Pride and Prejudice miniseries? My dad taped it a while back and watches it sometimes, but I never got around to watching it. Like many things entertainment-related, repeated bugging / threats on my life are required. :P

Josh took ENG213 (short story) and I think he really liked it. Talk to him for more info! And you want to subject yourself to additional MGY courses? May I suggest a dose of hemlock instead? :P

And don't get a cassette player, that's so 1980s. :P

What's not to love about Pride and Prejudice? Bride and Prejudice was just a SORRY excuse for a movie. UGH. Ash/Lalita singing, "I
just want a man who gives some back, who talks to me and not my rack!"

Oh the pain. The horror.

And what made you decide on the Zen, finally?

Stephen: Have I seen the version of P&P that has Colin Firth swimming very fetchingly round a lake? Hmmm. possibly. :P And recommending hemlock? Trying to get rid of me before the Hippocratic Oath gets in the way? :P:P:P Seriously, though, am I KNOWN for my abundance of sanity?

LL: I've read (almost) every ER recap on TWoP. Yes, I am addicted. :D But y'know, when it gets to a point where the recapper obviously really doesn't care for the show anymore, it's not that fun to read. The recaps for the last two seasons of Buffy were positively TOXIC. are you on msn, btw?

Hemsie-Wemsie-Pudding&Pie! :D Um, yes, the lyrics were painful, but I bypassed all of that by concentrating on the pretty that is Martin Henderson. :D And it was pretty close btw the Zen & the iRiver - the iRiver does seem to be better value for money, but i hear the scrolling buttons take FOREVER to get through lists of files. Y'never know, I may still change my mind.

Chris: (I accidentally typed Christ in there first, so you can go ahead and feel all nice & smug :D) I've actually decided against mgy428 for now, but 485 does look pretty interesting. Do you know anyone who's taken that course? What courses are you taking, btw?

This Hippocratic Oath you speak of... does it have anything to do with hippos or hypocracy? :P I plan on taking the Hypocritical Oath myself. :P That, and starting up a new chapter of Doctors WITH Borders and refusing to leave my room. :P

Ah yes... he IS pretty.

(ENG 213 sounds interesting, btw. Gah! I should've majored in English...)

I can watch Narutos one after the other, and invariably I can't stop. Want to know what's going to happen in the next episode by mid-current episode. Thankfully, all the episodes are on a friends USB hard disk, so all I have to do it get him to take it back from me.

keith - heyyyy! i dunno, I'm kinda over Naruto for now...

sabina - i should have done that too! instead now i have to wait for the next season to start in two-three MONTHS! :'( And your idea re- the mp3 player? I like the way you think! :D
